PCT

Patient Care Technician

Patient Care Technicians are mid-level health care providers like Medical Assistants but with some differences. Our Patient Care Technicians are certifified phlebotomists, certified EKG technicians, and certified/licensed nursing assistants. With such a variety of skills and abilities, PCTs are very valuable to both hospitals and physician offices.

As a Patient Care Technician, you should expect to:

· Perform basic assessments on patients including gathering medical information, vital signs, and complaints
· Obtain blood and other samples such as urine and other specimens
· Perform EKGs, and depending on the setting, perform stress testing and Holter monitoring

Course Description: Certified Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician program at 911Programs has been in existence since 2011 and is one of the most popular programs because graduates are highly sought-after. The program consists of four modules: General Medical Studies (4 weeks), Core Phlebotomy (7 weeks), Core EKG (6 weeks), and Nursing Assistant (12 weeks). Depending on the semester and number of students in each module, some students will start with CNA while others will start with Phlebotomy or EKG. Students must take General Medical Studies (GMS) before taking Phlebotomy or EKG. GMS consists of 4 weeks of introductory information to get students acquainted with the medical field, covering a variety of topics such as Introduction to Health Care, Legal and Ethical Issues, Infection Prevention, Medical Terms, Introduction to Anatomy, CPR, and First Aid. Upon completion of the introductory portion, students enter either core phlebotomy or core EKG - the order in which modules are taken depends on the semester and seating availability in each module. Students who start with the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) portion do not have to take GMS before starting CNA. Both the CNA portion and the phlebotomy module include a guaranteed clinical rotation. Upon completion of the Phlebotomy and EKG modules, students may sit for the National HealthCareer Association (NHA) Cardio-Phlebotomy Exam. Alternatively, students may sit for the NHA Phlebotomy or EKG portions at different times. Upon completion of the CNA portion, students may sit for the State CNA license examination. Our Patient Care Technician Program now includes everything from the standard PCT course Level I PLUS training in IV Access and Infusions. This added skill set is an essential element to be of truly high value in the clinical setting. We include this IV training in all our PCT courses so all our graduates will be Level II and will receive a certificate that states Patient Care Technician Level II. 911Programs is an NHA testing site so graduates can take their national exam with us - right where they took their course! Upon graduation, our staff will assist graduates with job searches and job prep as needed. We work with multiple agencies who are frequently in contact with us looking for the next batch of graduates.

A basic level PCT course does not include IV training but our Patient Care Technician Program includes everything from the standard PCT course Level I PLUS training in IV Access and Infusions. This added skill set is an essential element to be of truly high value in the clinical setting. We include this IV training in all our PCT courses so all our graduates will be Level II and will receive a certificate that states Patient Care Technician Level II.

The Certified Patient Care Technician Program at 911Programs prepares students for certification exam by the National HealthCareer Association (NHA). The phlebotomy and EKG Tech professions are not licensed in the State of Rhode Island and graduates may apply for jobs with our completion certificate alone, however we recommend taking the NHA exam to increase employer confidence. 911Programs is an authorized testing site for the NHA and students may take their national certifications here. Tuition, Expenses, and Financing... Expand

Important Information:

  1. This course is comprised of three FULL COURSES including a full Phlebotomy Program (not a course on "how to draw blood") and a full EKG Technician Program (not a course on "how to do an ECG") and a full Certified Nursing Assistant Program which allows graduates to sit for the National HealthCareer Association (NHA) Certified Patient Care Technician Examination. The NHA National Exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCAA), a division of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE). Completion of this program also qualifies graduates to sit for the Rhode Island Nursing Assistant Licensure Exam.
  2. We have been an NHA testing site since 2013 so you can take your national exam at our school. (see certificates below)
  3. We also have guaranteed phlebotomy clinical placement at one of our many affiliate labs in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts. The average time from end of course to clinical placement was 30 days in 2022. Since students complete the clinical requirements for EKG during the school session, there is no need for an outside clinical placement for the EKG portion. Students can apply for a job immediately as an EKG Tech, and can apply for phlebotomy / cardiophlebotomy positions upon completion of the phlebotomy clinical.

Payment Plan Options

General Parameters

  1. The minimum downpayment for 2025 is $550
  2. The lowest monthly payment is $99 (depending on downpayment)
  3. The longest term is 24 months (2 years)
  4. At least half the tuition must be paid to graduate and get a certificate
  5. The lower your downpayment and/or monthly payment, the longer the term - however the term cannot exceed 24 months so either the downpayment or monthly payment has to be higher to meet the above requirements
  6. There is a finance fee on the amount you are financing so the larger the downpayment, the lower the finance fee
  7. There is interest on the unpaid balance so the sooner you pay off your loan, the less interest you will pay - just like any loan
  8. The more you put down and the quicker you pay, the less money you will spend in the long run
  9. Most popular, least expensive option is to pay in full before 1st class and receive a 10% discount off tuition

Example of payment plan using the minimum downpayment ($550): 24 monthly payments of $320.81

Our program allows you to choose the plan that best suits YOUR budget!
