Basic, AEMT, & Cardiac Refreshers

This refresher is a self-paced, self-directed format that allows you to complete the requirements whenever you want, and where ever you want, provided you have an internet connection. Normally the NREMT has a maximum number hours allowed to be distributive, however the NREMT has lifted max distance education requirements for the 2020-2021 cycle. There are 5 categories to be completed in the National Component

1. Airway
2. Cardiovascular
3. Medical
4. Trauma
5. Operations

Each category above has a minimum hour requirement based on the level of licensure of the student. Within each category above, a number of topics must be covered. The amount of time spent on any one topic is not defined. For example:

A student re-certifying at the EMT level must complete 1.5 hours in the Airway category covering ventilation and oxygenation within that time.

Defining how much time spent in ventilation vs. oxygenation is not required.

Each state and locality defines its own requirements under this section. At the present time, this component is only available for Rhode Island recertification. Check with your state EMS office for requirements in this area.

100% of the Individual Component hours can be distributive, however certain rules apply. For instance, their can be no duplicate courses, meaning you cannot get credit for training more than once (i.e. in two different components). We have pre-selected content that meets the hours requirement for each level of licensure that is not duplicated elsewhere.

Depending on the component selected, there may be one or more categories.

For the National Component, there are Headings for each of the 5 categories

(Airway, Cardiovascular, Medical, Trauma, Operations).

For the Individual Component, there are no headings or sub-categories.

Under each category are a number of modules that correspond to the topics required for each category. Video topics range from very short (a minute or two) to much longer. To ensure that the proper time is spent in each category, some topics are covered in more than one video.

Select a topic (in the desktop version, click the topic name on the left) such as “Insulin Pump Basics” and watch the video. When you complete the video, there may or may not be a short quiz to assess your understanding of the topic. If there is a quiz, you must complete it to get credit for the topic. As you complete each topic (video), a check-mark will appear next to the topic name to let you know that it was completed successfully. Some important points:

• The topics MUST be done in order. At this time, the ability to choose topics at random is not allowed. Completing one topic unlocks the next topic.
• If there is a quiz at the end of the topic, you must get all answers right to get credit for the topic. If you answer incorrectly, you will be prompted to select a different answer.
• There is no “live instruction” unless otherwise stated.
• Once you complete a topic, you will get credit as indicated by a green check-mark next to the completed topic.
• If information, protocols, or procedures change during the course of your refresher and you have already completed the relevant topic, your green check-mark will turn red and you will be prompted to repeat that topic to learn the new information.

Email will ordinarily be returned within one business day. Phone conference is handled by requesting a call back. The charge for phone conferences will be added to your account which must be current by the time you complete your course.

Upon completion of all sections of a single component or multiple components, you will receive a certificate of completion. For example:

• If you are only taking the National Component, you will receive a certificate of completion for that component: for example “NCCP National Component”
• If you are taking multiple components, you will receive a certificate indicating that: for example “Completion of EMT Refresher”
